Welcome to Let’s Get Dressed. We’ve made it! And when I say "we," I mostly mean me—who has been procrastinating on starting a Substack for far too long. We’ve all had that moment of getting a great idea, that then gets completely derailed by the daunting question of “where to begin?” The pursuit of perfectionism loves to stop us in our tracks. But one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned as an entrepreneur over the past decade is that “done is better than perfect,” and that putting something out into the world and letting it evolve on its own is the best way to find your groove.
So instead of contemplating this Substack for another month, I’m thrilled to finally welcome you to my weekly newsletter! Here, I’ll be sharing my fashion finds - you can expect my weekly looks, links, ideas, trends, and any random musings that pop into my mind as a fashion enthusiast. Think of this as my fashion diary, where you’re actually invited to peek inside.
This is a work in progress, so if there’s anything specific you’d like to see, don’t hesitate to reach out! But for now, if you’re in need of some style inspiration for the weekend ahead, you’ve found yourself in the right place.
Let’s begin by addressing the talk of the town: barrel jeans.
Barrel jeans are the cool cousin in town—they’re fitted at the waist and ankles, then flare out around the hips to the calves. We’re as far away as we can get from Skinny Jeanland. I posted a poll last week on Instagram asking if everyone liked them, and over 80% did, so I’m glad we’re all on the same page about loving these. They’re universally flattering and so comfortable—you can wear something form-fitting on top to accentuate the shape, or, this weekend, I wore an oversized sweater and they still looked great. If it’s your first time, try something like the look below: belted for shape and paired with something cropped to let the pants steal the show.
The first ones are the Co Balloon Jeans, and the ones above are the AG Jeans Hattie. I paired it with a a corduroy jacket, this belt and earring set from Janessa Leone, and Loro Piana bag and shoes. I also love the Free People Barrel Jean! They’re under $100 and so soft. Really comfortable but elevated for a day of meetings.
Navy is having a renaissance.
On next week’s podcast with Larissa Mills (for those of you just meeting me, I host a fashion podcast called Let’s Get Dressed), we talk about how navy used to have this stuffy/professional feel that made us allergic to it. Yet somehow, it has a new lease on life in 2024. I can’t get enough of it, which is surprising coming from someone who didn’t have a single piece of navy in her closet six months ago. I just got this navy dress from an emerging brand I love called St. Agni and wore it to an event for Victoria Beckham on Monday night. I paired it with brown Gucci heels that I bought in Paris and haven’t been able to find anywhere in the US (sigh, but there’s a similar pair here), along with a matching brown suede bag. There’s something about this color combo that feels perfectly fall-inspired and incredibly chic.
Some other new navy closet additions include these Leset trousers and a matching sweater from Jenni Kayne. If you do head to JK, use my code for 15% off - LIVP15
How to make white pants not feel so summery.
Believe it or not, I still get people asking if they can wear white after Labor Day, to which I always reply with a passionate yes. I wear white year round (I’m a little burnout by it post wedding but I know we’ll re-kindle soon) and especially love it in the fall to balance out those deeper tones. The white pants here made the look feel so fresh and was a welcome shift from my usual black trouser. For white pants - if you’ve followed me for a while you know I’m a big fan of the Aritzia Effortless Pants, the Matte Pearl is a chic warm white. These Theory pants are also perfection.
I wore this look to a lunch on Thursday; it’s an old Loro Piana sweater - it’s sold out but here’s an affordable version from J.CREW - along with a Source Unknown Suede Jacket, and Chanel accessories.
I got over my high school ick of collared shirts and it feels great.
I went to a prep school with uniforms my whole life, so once I graduated I was repelled by anything that felt preppy. But after a decade and a Paris Fashion Week filled with beautiful collars and endless inspiration, I’m healed! Sometimes we just need to take a break from things in our closet to be able to see them with fresh eyes. That applies to everything except those heeled sneakers we used to wear - those aren’t coming back.
I specifically saved these moments from this season’s Rabanne, Miu Miu, and Loewe shows and can’t wait to wear something similar at home. I gravitate towards collars that have structure to them (nothing worse than a collar with no life to it) so I love this option as a layering piece under all the cozy sweaters coming up.
Some notable mentions currently in my cart this week…
If you don’t love sweatpants but want to be cozy, try this.
Dani Michelle made the perfect white tee at Joe’s Jeans.
I can’t stop thinking about the Loewe Flamenco bag.
Have a lovely weekend and see you next week <3 Until then, you can find me on Instagram and more of my closet favorites here.
