What Does It Look Like to Get an MBA in Fashion?
Inside the MBA journey of one fashion creator rethinking her next chapter.
Welcome back to Let’s Get Dressed, a newsletter where I share my endeavors in fashion — what I’m wearing, shopping, trying on, and thinking about — to give you some inspiration for the week ahead. It’s my fashion diary, except I’m actually letting you look inside.
What happens when a successful fashion creator decides to go back to school? The Internet takes notice.
Kate Bartlett has spent the last few years building a personal brand that many would dream of — living her best New York City life in her 20s, working with designers like Ralph Lauren and Carolina Herrera, and building a following of over 1 million followers. But last year, she shocked her followers with a sharp pivot: she announced her enrollment in NYU Stern’s Luxury and Retail MBA program.
This week on Let’s Get Dressed, we sat down to talk about why she decided to go back to school, what it’s actually like balancing content creation with case studies, and how it feels to invest in a whole new chapter, even when things are already going well.
We also got into the state of the influencer space, how business school is reshaping her perspective on brand-building, and, in true retail nerd fashion, swapped stories about our favorite shopping experiences. (The American Girl Doll Store comes up, and yes, it made my day.)
If you’ve ever thought about going back to school, felt the itch to evolve, or just love hearing how people stay creatively inspired in a changing industry, this one’s for you.
