Welcome back to Let’s Get Dressed, a newsletter where I share my endeavors in fashion — what I’m wearing, shopping, trying on, chatting and thinking about — to give you some inspiration for the week ahead. It’s my fashion diary, except I’m actually letting you look inside.

Every Saturday, I host an “Ask Me Anything” on Instagram, and last weekend’s was flooded with one question: “What should I wear to a wedding?”

Last summer, I had four weddings back to back, and finding an outfit for each one felt like a full-time job, so I totally get it. It was my favorite procrastination activity and I became a professional. Summer weddings are especially fun to dress for — you’re a little tan, the fabrics are flowy, maybe with a chic shawl thrown over your shoulders — it’s a great excuse to buy a new dress (or re-style one you already love). Since we’re in the thick of wedding season, I figured there’s no better time to break down exactly what to wear to any upcoming nuptials, or events for that matter, that you’ve got on the calendar.

My best tip: let the destination be your biggest tool. A beach ceremony calls for something a little more playful — think prints, ruffles, and breezy chiffons — while a black-tie wedding in the city might lean more glitz and glam. Here’s a little cheat sheet if you need a refresher on common dress codes:
Cocktail attire: midi or floor-length dresses, polished, but can still feel a bit relaxed.
Black tie attire: floor-length always, dressier fabrics, prints, and silhouettes. Think bold shoulders, drapes, and trains.

If you’re after something vintage, a few of my favorite sources are below, especially great for one-of-a-kind moments.

  • Sweet Disorder

  • Raffe Vintage

  • Shrimpton Couture

  • Rebe Archive

  • Sara Nicole Vintage

  • Happy Isles

  • Sielian Vintage

I’ve rounded up my favorite wedding guest dresses, organized by vibe and budget, to help you find something that feels effortless, appropriate, and still very you.

PS: if my edit of 60+ dresses doesn’t hit the spot, feel free to leave a comment on this post and I’ll help you find what you’re looking for (subscribers only!).
